Damien George 78d702c300 py: Allow builtins to be overridden.
This patch adds a configuration option (MICROPY_CAN_OVERRIDE_BUILTINS)
which, when enabled, allows to override all names within the builtins
module. A builtins override dict is created the first time the user
assigns to a name in the builtins model, and then that dict is searched
first on subsequent lookups. Note that this implementation doesn't
allow deleting of names.

This patch also does some refactoring of builtins code, creating the
modbuiltins.c file.

Addresses issue #959.

Damien George be6d8be91e py: Rename mp_obj_int_get to mp_obj_int_get_truncated; fix struct.pack.
mp_obj_int_get_truncated is used as a "fast path" int accessor that
doesn't check for overflow and returns the int truncated to the machine
word size, ie mp_int_t.

Use mp_obj_int_get_truncated to fix struct.pack when packing maximum word
sized values.

Addresses issues #779 and #998.

Damien George 32ef3a3517 py: Allow bytes/bytearray/array to be init'd by buffer protocol objects.
Behaviour of array initialisation is subtly different for bytes,
bytearray and array.array when argument has buffer protocol. This patch
gets us CPython conformant (except we allow initialisation of
array.array by buffer with length not a multiple of typecode).

Paul Sokolovsky 2559e13957 moductypes: Make sure we can apply .sizeof() to all aggregate types.
Before, sizeof() could be applied to a structure field only if that field
was itself a structure. Now it can be applied to PTR and ARRAY fields too.
It's not possible to apply it to scalar fields though, because as soon as
scalar field (int or float) is dereferenced, its value is converted into
Python int/float value, and all original type info is lost. Moreover, we
allow sizeof of type definitions too, and there int is used to represent
(scalar) types. So, we have ambiguity what int may be - either dereferenced
scalar structure field, or encoded scalar type. So, rather throw an error
if user tries to apply sizeof() to int.

Damien George 481d714bd5 stmhal: Overhaul UART class to use read/write, and improve it.
UART object now uses a stream-like interface: read, readall, readline,
readinto, readchar, write, writechar.

Timeouts are configured when the UART object is initialised, using
timeout and timeout_char keyword args.

The object includes optional read buffering, using interrupts. You can set
the buffer size dynamically using read_buf_len keyword arg. A size of 0
disables buffering.

Damien George 9a21d2e070 py: Make mpz able to use 16 bits per digit; and 32 on 64-bit arch.
Previously, mpz was restricted to using at most 15 bits in each digit,
where a digit was a uint16_t.

With this patch, mpz can use all 16 bits in the uint16_t (improvement
to mpn_div was required). This gives small inprovements in speed and
RAM usage. It also yields savings in ROM code size because all of the
digit masking operations become no-ops.

Also, mpz can now use a uint32_t as the digit type, and hence use 32
bits per digit. This will give decent improvements in mpz speed on
64-bit machines.

Test for big integer division added.

With unicode enabled, this patch allows reading a fixed number of
characters from text-mode streams; eg file.read(5) will read 5 unicode
chars, which can made of more than 5 bytes.

For an ASCII stream (ie no chars > 127) it only needs to do 1 read. If
there are lots of non-ASCII chars in a stream, then it needs multiple
reads of the underlying object.

Adds a new test for this case. Enables unicode support by default on
unix and stmhal ports.

functionality in Python. 2nd choice is pursued. This setup matches CPython

Two things are handled here: allow to compare native subtypes of tuple,

duck-typedly by content). Secondly, allow user sunclasses of tuples
(and its subtypes) be compared either. "Magic" I did previously in
objtype.c covers only one argument (lhs is many), so we're in trouble
when lhs is native type - there's no other option besides handling
rhs in special manner. Fortunately, this patch outlines approach with
fast path for native types.

"object" type in MicroPython currently doesn't implement any methods, and
hopefully, we'll try to stay like that for as long as possible. Even if we
have to add something eventually, look up from there might be handled in
adhoc manner, as last resort (that's not compliant with Python3 MRO, but
we're already non-compliant). Hence: 1) no need to spend type trying to
lookup anything in object; 2) no need to allocate subobject when explicitly
inheriting from object; 3) and having multiple bases inheriting from object
is not a case of incompatible multiple inheritance.

Allow the uPy used by run-tests to be overridden
2014-04-17 17:20:26 +01:00
Damien George 5cd0b2227f tests: Split out those tests requiring float and import.
Tests in basics (which should probably be renamed to core) should not
rely on float, or import any non-built-in files. This way these tests
can be run when those features are not available.

All test in basics now pass on the pyboard using stmhal port, except for
string-repr which has some issues with character hex printing.

Paul Sokolovsky 8bc96471f0 Implement "is" and "is not" operators.
So far, don't work for strings as expected.

Paul Sokolovsky ddf2178d83 Refactor exception objects to have better impl of Python-side interface.
This implements internal args tuple of arguments, while still keeping
object useful for reporting C-side errors.

Further elaboration is needed.

Paul Sokolovsky 757ac81a69 Add proper checks for fits-in-small-int. Make it reusable.
We likely should make mp_obj_new_int() inline, and rely on its
encapsulated check rather than inline checks everywhere explicitly.

Also, parser for big small int values is still broken.

Paul Sokolovsky 899c69f94c compile_for_stmt_optimised_range(): Properly handle negative & unknown steps.
If step is not constant, in first approximation, we can't apply optimization,
(well, we could, but need a special case for this).

Damien George 062478e66d Improved type/class/instance code; mp_obj_type_t now has load_attr, store_attr.
Creating of classes (types) and instances is much more like CPython now.
You can use "type('name', (), {...})" to create classes.
2014-01-09 20:57:50 +00:00
Paul Sokolovsky 926d2b621e Count individual testcases when running tests.
The idea is simple: each print represents a testcase within a test unit.
As we don't have strict rules on which/how many testcase are put into
a test file, it's nice to have an idea how many *testcases* we have
totally. Would be nice to count how many testcases pass/fail, but
that's a bit less trivial.
